While I still prefer using google as it is one of the most popular search engines available and I have always made use of it for any type of search. I also have been researching other available search engines and was surprised about some of the ones I found. One such search engine was Rollyo found at the URL www.rollyo.com. Rollyo is a web site where a user can use to create and customize their own search engines to search specific web sites that they trust.

Instead of going through a search engine where multiple results will come up with a number of those sites being ones you are unsure about. A user can create their own searches using Rollyo’s search rolls to search the sites they trust and love.

The user does not have to become a member to use Rollyo and it is free for use. Rollyo search rolls can be shared between users and it has many functions for the search rolls to be used like being saved as a favorite, also it has plug -ins to be used on the FireFox toolbar. Rollyo seems to be a good search engine for using and uploading to user web sites as you can create search rolls for your web site and for ones related, but if a user is new to Rollyo it will take them a little while to get use to it.

The 404 error pages are the error message and error page that displays when a user goes to a page a we site does not have or is unavailable to them. An example of this is when a web site is ave server problems during the middle of the day, and when a user goes to a new page the error page comes up. So the error message comes up for any of the pages of the web site until the server side or web site problem is fixed.

Most people are aware of the error pages as they normally have had at some point one come up due to any number of problems with the website or Internet connection. The 404 error page normally appears though due to a link being wrong or a page being recently removed. As no web page is available the 404 error page automatically appears with a simple message of “404 page not found” or “The page cannot be found”.

The 404 error message is an HTTP status code that is part of a response code that says to the user that the server connection is working, but what they requested is unavailable at this time due to not being found or having been removed for various reasons. So the error message is different from the message of the server not found. So the 404 error message is an important tool for web design and usability because it reassures the user that they still have server and Internet access, but the web site they want is unavailable. The user can easily become frustrated over this experience and not want to visit the web site if they continue have similar problem, and so it is the responsibility of the web master to provide this good experience instead another persons.

Google is a search engine that does not makes changes to its interface very often and when they do it takes a long series of testings to to the final product. One of the newest features that Google plans a permanent sidebar on the search results pages, which they plan to have testing start soon with a limited group of people. The side bar is similar to the show options function bu it is going to narrow searches to categories with a clean and efficient look that Google is known for. The side bar is going to be pinned to the left side of the page where it meant to be a permanent placement.

The main purpose of the side bar is to help stop the way different search results look that often slow down users in such a way that it is a nice clean function that adds to the usability instead of take away. The design so far takes up little room and has a nice simple feel that will help those who are frustrated by google. All the testing is on its way, it might be a while before the functionality is enacted due to Google testing new features in every way possible.
